Scots can save over 60% on World Cup accommodation costs when hiring a campervan

  • Save $12,622.13 choosing a campervan over hotels and enjoy a classic American road trip

Scotland qualifying for the men’s World Cup 2026 means Scots are likely jumping at the chance to see their team play in the US for the first time in almost 30 years, this summer.

Right now, the Scottish team are set to play at the Boston Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts 13 & 19 June 2026, before heading down to the Miami Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, for a match against Brazil (24 June).

For superfans wanting to follow their national team down the East Coast, a campervan road trip proves an affordable way to enjoy each of these matches.

Understandably, nightly hotel rates at properties near the two stadia have skyrocketed over the dates of the tournament. Taking a family of six (four adults and two children) as an example, two hotel rooms for eight nights at the Hilton Garden Inn Foxborough Patriot Place – a three-minute walk from Gillette Stadium – is $15,349.90, including taxes.

In Miami, the same quantity of rooms for this family for six nights at Hampton Inn & Suites Miami-Doral/Dolphin Mall – a 22-minute drive from Hard Rock Stadium – is $4,187.72, including taxes.

12—27 June US road trip with CamperDays

Between 12—27 June 2026, a six-person Cruise America C-30 to be picked up just 29 miles away from Boston and dropped off in Princeton, Florida, is £3,281.80 and includes 24/7 roadside assistance, user briefing, camping guide, KOA camping ground discount code, camping table, bed linen & towels, and kitchen equipment.

The Cruise America C-30 is essentially a holiday home on wheels that sleeps between six or seven people. With a permanent rear bedroom and bed over the driver’s cabin, the sofa as well as the dinette also convert into beds to sleep extra bodies.

For full autonomy and convenience on the road, the vehicle contains a proper bathroom complete with a toilet, sink and shower. And the kitchen boasts a fridge-freezer, microwave, gas stove with multiple burners, a sink, counter space, storage cupboard, and a small dining area.

For proximity to Gillette Stadium to attend the Scotland matches on 13 and 19 June, book a pull-through site with 50 Amp full hookup pitch at Canoe River Campground, just an 18-minute drive away from the stadium. Checking in 12 June and checking out 20 June, the total cost for the pitch for six people is $624.

Between matches, Scottish fans can enjoy the freedom to explore New England in their camper, with Cape Cod National Seashore, Blue Hills Reservation, and Minute Man National Historical Park all within a one-and-a-half-hour drive.

For somewhere a bit further but still immensely stunning, visit White Mountain National Forest – 800,000 acres of rugged alpine wilderness spanning New Hampshire and Maine.

From 20 June, Scots face a bit of a race against time driving from Boston to Miami – almost 1,468 miles of driving to fit over four nights.

Setting off early on day one, take the I-95 south for a scenic drive along the Connecticut Shoreline, through New York, Newark, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington DC and Virginia.

After a good nine-hour drive – hopefully making time for stops in between for lunch or snacks – pitch up for the night at Bethpage Camp-Resort in Virginia for $171. This site is conveniently located along the Rappahannock River and runs into the Chesapeake Bay. The resort itself also holds games, arts and crafts nights, offers a packed entertainment series – last year saw 80’s pop nights, country throwdowns and wrestling championships – and boasts a fitness centre open daily.

On day two, continue the drive down the I-95 for seven hours through the Carolinas and pitch up for the night at Mount Pleasant/Charleston KOA Holiday for $120. There is plenty to do near the campsite and Charleston, such as visiting the combat submarine museum at Hunley, or visiting the filming locations of Gone with the Wind.

The next day, you’ll leave Charleston and finally enter the state of Florida a day before the match against Brazil.

Continuing along the I-05, you’ll drive southbound parallel to the Sea Islands Chain through South Carolina, Georgia, and over the Floridian state border. With only a four-hour drive to St Augustine on the east coast, stay at the St. Augustine Beach KOA Holiday campground on a pitch suitable for your vehicle for $112 for the night.

On the day you leave, it’ll be 23 June, meaning you’ll arrive in Miami with a full evening and full next day ahead of you before an evening-kick off on the 24th.

With only a four-hour drive from St. Augustine to Hollywood, Miami – park at the Hollywood KOA, just an 11-minute drive to Hard Rock Stadium. This will be your bigger expense, as you will stay for more than one night until your vehicle rental runs out on the 27th. But nightly rates for a pitch aren’t that much more expensive considering the dates – from just $125 per night.

Once the match is over, you’ll have earned a long lie-in the next morning, and you’ll have a few extra days to get in some extra road trips from Miami, seeing either:

  • Florida Keys

  • The Everglades & Big Cypress

  • The Gulf Coast

For fuel, if you’re going heavy on the New England and Florida road trips outside of your continuous driving days, then expect to need about 200 gallons of regular unleaded fuel, but you can half that if the only long stints of driving you expect to do is the four days between Boston and Miami.

At a national average of $4.53 per gallon as of mid-May 2026, expect to budget up to $1,000 on fuel to be on the safe side.

Hotel only, not including transit in between: $19,537.62

Motorhome, campsite and fuel costs: $6,915.49

Your epic East Coast US road trip saves you at least 64%, without considering the extra expense hotel guests will need to spend on transport between Boston and Miami.
