Cruise America is, as is well known, the budget option for a motorhome in the US. And that’s exactly what we got. Everything works ‘more or less’. We would have expected a few minor issues to have been fixed before we hired it, but on the whole we were able to complete our trip without a hitch. But we’re not that fussy either. For example, rodents in the bottom drawers at night, a missing aerator, a mosquito net that wouldn’t open, a faulty internal mosquito screen and water dripping into the luggage compartment didn’t fundamentally spoil our enjoyment. Regarding the last point, however, we’re waiting for further feedback, as some of our clothes have gone mouldy. Our hire motorhome had just under 70,000 miles on the clock, though we did see plenty of newer motorhomes with, for example, only 8,000 km. Naturally, everything looks different then… Whether it’s been hired out 1–2 times or 10–20 times is, of course, evident from the interior. In terms of driving, everything was absolutely trouble-free. The only issue was the rear-view mirrors wobbling badly… so looking behind was rather unpleasant.

The cupboards and the general cleanliness of the new motorhome (which has only done 5,000 miles) leave a lot to be desired. The floor is dirty, and the cupboards are dusty and dirty. Overall, though, we found the motorhome very comfortable.

We will never hire a vehicle from Cruise America again. Firstly, the vehicle was handed over two hours late, despite the agreed handover time. The staff in Los Angeles were very unfriendly. The C30 vehicle was old, dented and worn on the outside. Inside, there was various damage, the heating didn’t work, the gauges for all fluid levels were faulty, and it wasn’t clean either. There were no wheel chocks and no wedges to stabilise the vehicle on uneven ground. The staff in San Francisco were more preoccupied with make-up and ******* than with any actual work! Next time, we’d rather pay a bit more and get a decent vehicle in return.

All the staff were very friendly and helpful. The handover went very smoothly. Any pre-existing damage was documented in detail, some of the additional furnishings we’d booked were brand new, and everything was explained clearly. A really good handover! The return went exactly the same way. A very friendly member of staff gave everything a quick check, then we signed a report and the return was sorted. That went very well too! The vehicle itself had a few signs of wear and tear, but was still OK overall! We would book with them again in a heartbeat. Thank you very much!

Camperdays arranged everything perfectly. Any questions we had later on were answered quickly and thoroughly. Our motorhome was already a few years old and had quite a few dents, but Cruise America noted this down clearly, so it wasn't a problem. Cruise America's telephone support is also excellent; they provide quick and helpful answers to any questions.

The motorhome was very dirty inside when we picked it up; the previous renter’s belongings were still lying around everywhere. When we filled the fresh water tank, water ran into the interior, so our suitcases and bags got wet. Most of the locks on the external storage compartments were faulty, so we had to store our suitcases and bags inside the motorhome. The generator’s exhaust pipe kept falling off. The waste water drain hose had a hole in it. A night light could not be switched off and remained on continuously for two weeks. The bed linen was also dirty. A frying pan would have been desirable.

The type of vehicle **** that I rented was not suitable for the route I did, they rented me a vehicle **** with a more than excessive consumption for the size it had. It exceeded 25 litres/100 km with an efficient driving without ever exceeding 100 km/hour. On the other hand, it had a series of defects that, on delivery, the person who inspected it must have had an ITV inspector's complex. I have been a professional driver for more than 40 years and I can assure you that the vehicle **** was delivered in better condition than I picked it up. As for the cleanliness, it was handed over to me with a dirty kitchen and in this regard they should provide tools as simple as a broom and a bucket with a mop.

The camper was for 7 people, but only 4 adults could actually sleep in it. The other 3 berths were for (small) children. We had a 1.75-year-old adolescent with us and he couldn't actually sleep normally. There were also only 6 seats. Camper makes a lot of noise while driving. Little cleverness in the camper in cupboards and fridges to keep things in place. Every time the fridge or a cupboard opened after a drive, you had to be careful not to drop anything because it had moved while driving. Picking up the motorhome was a drama. We had made an appointment at 13:00. It took over 3 hours before we could leave. The camper was not ready yet, all the extra stuff ordered (blankets, kitchen stuff etc) were not there yet etc etc. It just wasn't prepared. And it wasn't just us, there were several families waiting. On the other hand, the return was quick. Partly because we also had VIP insurance, so they didn't have to check anything with us. Once again, we saw families who had been waiting a long time to collect their vehicles. In short, we had an excellent tour with the motorhome. El Monte (supplier motorhome) could prepare eea better. The camper could be furnished a bit smarter (doesn't have to be luxurious, but smarter) and there should be clear communication about the furnishing and the number of persons that can travel with it.

Everything went well Good welcome We had a larger motorhome than we had expected, which surprised us at first, but it was a good thing because it was more comfortable and the roads in the USA are suitable for large vehicles. I would recommend this very professional rental company.

The four of us spent almost three weeks travelling from LA to San Francisco in the C Medium. The pick-up in LA was a bit slow and not very engaging, during the journey we noticed a few things that could have been explained better (using the oven, switching on the interior lighting). There was still hair in the shower cubicle from the previous driver, otherwise the cleanliness was okay. The vehicle itself was very loud/roaring/rattling, so that conversations while driving on the motorway were hardly possible. The water pump felt almost louder than the generator, which made it quite unpleasant to use in the evening. One evening the side door wouldn't open (key broken) and the 24-hour emergency service still hasn't answered the phone (instead, the hotline on the back of the spare wheel was answered by a hostess service or similar). However, the staff were contactable by email and we were able to have the lock replaced in Las Vegas. The local employee was great and really quick to help. Overall, the motorhome didn't make the newest impression and we had the feeling that it was almost falling apart a little. Nevertheless, the trip through the USA was very nice and the size of the campervan is great for four people.

Difficult to assess. We had a great trip thanks to the B-class van we hired. The plus points : - great team - assistance available and attentive to finding solutions - commercial gesture granted at the end of the rental period following the problems encountered The minuses : - despite the low mileage of the van (48,000km), a lot of things should be fixed: torn mosquito net, damaged furniture, etc. - hose to fill the water tank not watertight, need to sponge every 4 seconds to avoid flooding the van (impossible to do alone) - Engine overheating after a few days (not serious) - Key problem (impossible to turn the engine on or off, solved in a few hours by the local agency in Las Vegas) - Very limited kitchen kit (better to buy it yourself on the spot, it will cost less) - Very brief explanations: no indication of the spirit level or the wheel chocks, no real demonstration to the end (either for the water connection or the oil changes), so you have to adapt a bit on your own as you go along.

I am very happy to have rented this vehicle, quick response to some of my questions, no worries about the vehicle, everything worked very well. I am used to travelling in a van or fitted 4x4 and this one was just as I expected. Maybe some changes are possible but it would be more on a perfectionist point. the price was reasonable, very good agency

Gearbox problems Water pump switch broken Propane gas leak Received old campervan. Problems with gearbox right on the first day. It was stuck with a rubber band that was snapped. As it was the weekend, we were stuck in Santa Maria for 3 days because no mechanic could come. Hotel costs were not reimbursed despite 2 promises. No compensation for the distress we suffered except refund of rent for the 3 days we could not use the motorhome. Not a very customer-friendly company. Some goodwill would have seemed justified to us. But alas... We will not rent a motorhome here in the future if they do not substantially improve their motorhomes and service.

Good service, both from Travellers Autobarn and from camperdays. Everything worked perfectly. The cars are a bit older and already have some miles on them, but you can drive unlimited miles yourself. The solar on the roof was great, so it was possible to stay overnight independently of campsites, which worked very well.

We had an old version and the windows were manual. We had to clean it up again because there were a few things sticking on the dashboard and in the door pockets. The previous tenants must have spilt a drink because there were splashes everywhere. On the other hand, the people at the agency were very pleasant.

Very recent vehicle (60k miles on the clock). Very practical and easy to park almost anywhere in the USA. Very reasonable fuel consumption for an RV and fully operational equipment. Little problem to contact the LA agency by phone for the check-in. Very helpful and friendly staff!

I definitely recommend this RV. We were 3 people but there is room for at least 5-6. We rent the Mighty class C large from El Monte RV (Los Angeles). The support was excellent, as was the care, and the RV was in excellent condition, all functional.
