Maui is an excellent camper rental company. The booking via camper days was easy and straightforward. Not all information was transferred to THL when picking up. Service during rental time was awesome and staff at pick up and return extremely nice and helpful.

The 1st motorhome that was offered to us had considerable defects (glass cover for gas cooker was missing, locking lever for table was missing, overall condition of exterior and interior was poor). The 2nd was 1 year old and in good condition. However, a few things came to light during the 4700km journey. A siphon was missing from the sink + shower basin (constant smell of sewage in the motorhome), the cables on the swivelling driver's seat were torn out after 3 turns (had already been mended several times but not properly), and within the 3 weeks the engine battery was discharged 3 times overnight and I had to rely on a jump start (system not well thought out). This is the 2nd time we've had this model, we didn't have this problem before. Overall, we still find this model very practical for 2 people.

Originally ordered the hippie hitop and was told it was in a crash so they had to “upgrade” me to a van that was almost double the size. I was planning on taking this on holiday from Sydney to Brisbane (1 way), and was planning on doing some camping in nature along the way in the mountains and around some of the beaches, the size of this van was so large that we were basically forced to stay in paid campgrounds. I was given only one other option (mighty camper), which looked incredibly junky (old, dusty, stains everywhere on the mattress and counters). After asking about other options we were told we only could choose between the RV sized van, or the clunker (mighty camper). We felt completely taken advantage of. As far as the van itself was, it was fine. There was no spatula to cook with, no broom to sweep, the bathroom did have an odor, no fitted sheet, the 2 seatbelts behind the driver and passenger seats were “out of service”, and the bed was absolutely AWFUL (with all the extra space they could have made a more comfortable bed). I’d give the whole experience a 2.5/5 stars, for nothing other than the van worked, had AC and was a relatively newer model.

In addition, the house battery was broken, which is why the fridge, lights and water pump only worked with the power connected. We tried to sort this out with customer service, but it was an even bigger disaster. Either we were on hold for ages, they hung up directly or the help was useless. For an extremely high rental price, this was very disappointing as we had to go to campsites and had additional costs. I cannot recommend the Hippie Hitop Camper.
