Unfortunately, a very disappointing experience with Cruise Canada In August, we went on a long motorhome trip through Canada with Cruise Canada and were, unfortunately, very disappointed. We were travelling as a family with two young children and had been really looking forward to the trip. Unfortunately, our trip was significantly marred by numerous problems with the hire vehicle. The fridge broke down on the very first night. Despite contacting them several times, the problem had still not been resolved by 25 August. In the meantime, we were advised to buy a cool box and get ice every day. However, this was not a practical solution for us on a trip through national parks and remote areas. We also had to throw away some of our food. In the end, we had to make an unplanned trip to Vancouver to have the motorhome repaired or, ultimately, replaced. This cost us valuable holiday time and extra money on petrol. With two young children in particular, this unplanned detour was a considerable burden. The condition of the first motorhome was also disappointing when we took it over: parts of the vehicle were noticeably dirty, the kitchen fittings were incomplete, and there were numerous other faults, including issues with the waste water hose, cruise control, the fuel gauges, door locks, and various fittings and curtains. Although the replacement vehicle in Vancouver was considerably cleaner, it too had several faults: these included an empty gas tank, faulty curtains, loose locks, problems with the fly screen and faulty fuel gauges. The communication was particularly disappointing: we were assured by the helpline that the Vancouver branch had been informed about our vehicle replacement. On arrival, however, nobody there was initially aware of it. We would like to give a special mention to the staff in Vancouver. Despite the situation, the four members of staff on site were very friendly, helpful and keen to assist us quickly. Many thanks for that! In the end, we received a refund of just 239 CAD. Given that the fridge was out of order for several days, the additional journey to Vancouver, the loss of time, the petrol costs, the spoiled food and the numerous other faults, we do not consider this refund to be adequate. We have previously taken a motorhome trip with another rental company and therefore know that technical problems can occur. However, what matters is how these issues are dealt with. It is precisely in this regard that, unfortunately, our experience with Cruise Canada was significantly worse. Our conclusion: following this experience, we would not currently recommend Cruise Canada and would choose a different rental company for any future motorhome trip. It’s a shame, because a trip like this is really meant to create wonderful memories – unfortunately, we’re left with many memories of repairs, phone calls, detours and frustration.

The campervan we hired was a disaster. It had nearly 100,000 km on the clock and was incredibly noisy – we could barely hear each other inside the vehicle whilst driving. When we collected it, we pointed out that the plug in the washbasin was broken, but nobody cared; they told us to sort it out ourselves and get a new plug from a DIY store. None of the display indicators for the waste water tanks worked; they always showed 2/3 full. The inside of the windscreen was completely smeared with water marks, so we had to clean it first. The mattress was also on its last legs. Whilst driving, there was a smell of gas in the cabin at times; no idea where it was coming from. There was no coffee machine or toaster in the vehicle; we had to buy them first. We’d had better experiences with other providers in this respect; wheel chocks weren’t provided either. Some of the contacts on the 30A plug were bent and burnt, meaning the plug could only be fitted with considerable force. The fly screen door was secured with tape to the broken hinges; it eventually started to hang down because the tape had lost its grip. All in all, the campervan was run-down. We will definitely not be booking with Cruise Canada again.

Unfortunately, it was a very disappointing experience. It simply isn’t good value for money. For the hire price, you get a vehicle where it’s obvious that the cheapest materials and fittings have been used wherever possible. The towels and bed linen smelled awful, even though they were supposedly fresh, so we had to wash everything straight away. The customer service also felt more like a show than genuine support. The motorhome is poorly insulated, which apparently makes it easy for mice to get inside. During our trip, we met several other people who had hired a Cruise America or Cruise Canada motorhome, and many of them also told us about problems with mice getting into their vehicles. The C21 is extremely noisy whilst driving and has very high fuel consumption. Overall, in our opinion, the condition and quality of the motorhome simply do not justify the hire price.

We were very pleased with the motorhome. It was spotlessly clean, in perfect condition and equipped with everything we needed for a trip lasting several weeks through the Canadian Rockies. It was a comfortable drive and we didn’t encounter any problems at all along the way. The booking process with CamperDays was very straightforward and the service was excellent. We’d definitely book with them again and would recommend them to anyone wanting to explore Canada in a motorhome. An unforgettable experience!

Our vehicle had quite a few problems. Some were rather annoying (water ******* into the back of the cabin, soaking our clothes and the mattress when it rained). Electrical and alternator problems, and a greywater leak. I think the previous hirers must not have reported these faults. And we had difficulties with the telephone support service due to the language barrier, so we waited until we got back to report the problems we’d encountered. A branch had caught on a small corner strip at the back and pulled it slightly out of place. Cruise Canada were very attentive to our issues and took note of them for future reference; we had no problems with our deposit and they even gave us a small compensation payment which we hadn’t asked for. I think we were lucky not to have had more rain on our trip, but in any case, they were very fair and we’d like to thank them for that.

The collection and return were prompt, friendly, efficient and very professional. Everything worked perfectly and the vehicle was in a used but good, standard condition. The equipment, even with the premium package, was a bit sparse. It would have been nice to have a wheel chock for levelling the vehicle when camping, or even a chock for when you park the vehicle on a steeply sloping road... It’s also a shame that the vehicles are VERY thirsty (which is to be expected with those engines). Overall, we were satisfied with the vehicle and the service.

We rented a C-21 camper from Cruise Canada for 13 days in October and were very satisfied with our trip and the service overall. Positive: The handover was quick and easy, and the staff were friendly and easy to reach. The value for money was also excellent – for around €1,100, we got a reliable camper that took us through Alberta and the Rockies without any problems. Room for improvement: The equipment was rather basic overall. Some kitchen utensils seemed cheap (e.g. the coating on the cooking spoons came off after a short time), and there was no cutlery tray – instead, everything was stored in a zip bag. In addition, there were no warnings about the risk of frost, which is definitely relevant in Canada in October. We had to find out for ourselves how to protect the tanks from freezing. We also found it a bit of a shame that when we returned the camper, there was no way to pass on leftover food or cleaning products (e.g. milk, oatmeal, washing-up liquid) to the next renter – instead, we had to throw everything away. That seemed unnecessarily wasteful. In addition, our windscreen already had a stone chip directly in the field of vision when we picked up the vehicle, which was a bit annoying when driving. Conclusion: Despite minor flaws, we had a great time with the camper and would recommend Cruise Canada overall – especially because of the uncomplicated handling and the very good price-performance ratio.
