The best months for campervan hire in Calgary are between June and September. The weather is best during this time, and the days are longer, making it an excellent time to explore the local area. Best campervan routes from Calgary

Calgary to Banff National Park
This is a really popular route with those who rent a motorhome in Calgary. Head west on the Trans-Canada highway, a great road to drive long with lovely mountain views. Make sure you stop along the way to take plenty of photographs. Once in Banff, there are loads to do here, including hiking, wildlife viewing, and relaxing in the hot springs. After the national park, head to Banff town or Lake Louise.

Calgary to Jasper National Park via the Icefields Parkway
Pick up your campervan in Calgary and prepare for a massive drive (over 400km), but it includes the Icefields Parkway along the way. From Calgary, head West towards Banff and then continue towards the Icefields Parkway, which some say is one of the best drives in the world. The route offers breathtaking views of glaciers, waterfalls, and wildlife. Key stops include the Columbia Icefield, Athabasca Falls, and the town of Jasper.

Calgary to Drumheller
This is a 135km route that heads east of Calgary to Drumheller. Take Highway 9, which goes through the rolling prairies. Once in Drumheller, visit the Royal Tyrrell Museum to see one of the world’s largest collections of dinosaur fossils. Explore the hoodoos and unique rock formations in the badlands, and enjoy the scenic views along the Dinosaur Trail.

Sites of interest and excursions outside of Calgary

Lake Louise
Lake Louise is 180km from Calgary, but it will be one of the best lakes you can visit due to its unique turquoise waters and mountain backdrop. Once here, you can canoe on the lake or hike on one of the trails. There are plenty of nearby campsites to stay at.

Moraine Lake
Another fantastic lake is Moraine Lake, which is in Banff National Park, as we mentioned earlier. Surrounded by the Valley of the Ten Peaks, the lake is renowned for its blue colour. Take a walk along the lake shows, take plenty of photographs and enjoy being there.

Kananaskis Country
It's about 90km from Calgary and has plenty to offer, such as hiking, mountain biking, and fishing. Popular areas include Kananaskis Village, Barrier Lake, and Peter Lougheed Provincial Park.

Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump
Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump is about 180 km south of Calgary and is a UNESCO World Heritage site that features a museum and interpretive centre that explains the ancient practice of buffalo hunting.
