Best Campervan routes in Finland

Helsinki to Turku and the Archipelago Trail. This scenic route is where you head west from Helsinki to Turku (Finland's oldest city), known for its riverfront and medieval castle.  After visiting Turku (we recommend you stay for a day), head onto the Archipelago Trail. This is a 250km route that goes through Finands stunning archipelago with a great mix of ferries and bridges connecting the islands. It's an excellent opportunity for island hopping, coastal villages and a route you won't have been on before. It's perfect for when you pick up a motorhome for hire in Finland.

Rovaniemi to Inari and the Sami Heartland. This route starts in Rovaniemi, where you can get the train from Helsinki before you. The route is 340 kilometres and heads north to Inari, the centre of Sami culture and one of the most beautiful regions in Finnish Lapland. It will take you through snowy landscapes in the winter and in the summer; it's known for its midnight sun. Once in Inari, you could take a boat trip on Lake Inari or just relax in this quiet area. It's a place where you can truly escape from it all. We recommend breaking this trip up over several days.

Sites of interest and excursions in Finland

Porvoo: We have picked out locations just around Helsinki, which is where most of you will likely pick up your campervan. Porvoo is one of Finland's oldest towns, known for its cobblestone streets, wooden houses, and riverside views. You could easily spend a whole day here just pottering around the shops and enjoying Finnish food. There is plenty of parking available on the outskirts of Porvoo, which makes it easily accessible.

Sipoonkorpi National Park: Just 30km outside of Helskini is Sipoonkorpi National Park, which we would classify as a natural retreat away from the noise of the city. There are forests to explore, scenic trails to walk around, and peaceful lakes to walk around. The park is perfect for hiking, birdwatching, and berry-picking in the summer.

Lohja: A 60km drive from Helsinki is Lohja, which is home to some amazing limestone caves, such as the Tytyri Mine Museum, where visitors can check out an amazing underworld. Kids will love it as well. There's also a lake called Lohjanjärvi, which is perfect for hiring a boat or fishing. As with most places in Finland, it's campervan friendly, with plenty of places to camp nearby.
