Cruise America C-30, Salt Lake City, written on 26 days ago

Good Morning, I wanted to reflect on the experience I have received after renting the Cruise America C30 for the 17 day period between 17/12/25-02/01/26 Rewinding to the day of collection, the lady on the desk in Salt Lake City was very rude and had very little time to answer any of our queries (none of which were covered in the 15 minute driver introduction video). We asked several questions, however her attitude felt showed she had zero time for us which was disappointing given we were embarking on an exciting road trip, not to mention we didn’t even get the answer to all our questions which we felt were important driving a vehicle the size of the C30. In comparison, the service we received in Orlando was much better and the attendant was keen to understand our experience and had a very positive attitude.. however due to us being late to the airport, we didn’t have time to list these issues we have experienced: Reflecting on the last 17 days, the Rv has taken us to some amazing locations and looked very cool in the process, we did however experience several issues which impacted the quality of our trip which we would not expect after spending ~£3.5k /$4k. Some of these issues are listed below: - Fridge kept turning off randomly spoiling our food when we were not in the RV to notice the green light not on. - We had issues with the heating not working, this caused some very uncomfortable nights sleep given we were exposed to cold temperatures in Utah - Showers were terrible, the water pump surges after 30 second meaning we couldn’t have a shower longer than this time unless we constantly waited. If it was not the water pump failing, the water barely kept warm for 30 mins making it difficult for one of us to shower, let alone 4x people. - The C30 is meant to sleep 7 people, the double bed and overhead cabin bed were great however the bed that converts from the chair and table/ dining area not fit one of us so had to sleep on the floor due to the length of the bed. The sofa bed looks like it has broken before (there was tape holding it together which we noticed on the first night) and been poorly repaired. This meant the bed kept sinking into a v shape causing the bar to stick in my friends back causing a very uncomfortable sleep. - I asked for bedding for 4 people as I mentioned we would be collecting a friend in Dallas. This additional bedding was not included and I was told we could collect this in Dallas for free, when we got to Dallas we were told we would have to pay $75!! So we ended up buying a sleeping bag from bas pro for a little less but meant our friend had some bedding - Very loud transmission whine on the van whilst driving, this made it difficult for us to hold conversations on the 4000 mile drive

Cruise America C-25, Salt Lake City, written on 4 months ago

Everything went very smoothly with the rental, pick-up and drop-off. The Cruise America staff were very helpful and friendly. The vehicle itself was actually very good and the engine was powerful enough even for very steep mountain roads. Unfortunately, the refrigerator did not work, everything froze and the temperature could not be adjusted. In addition, the screws on some of the compartments in the motorhome came loose, so we could no longer use them. Nevertheless, overall, we would do it again anytime. The entire trip and the experiences were fantastic!

The roads are wide and well maintained, and there is some excellent scenery once you get outside the city. Winters can be tricky as snowstorms can hit hard, especially in the mountain areas. Check the weather before heading out, especially in places like Big Cottonwood Canyon or Park City.

Head to Antelope Island State Park, just north of the city, and you’ll find beaches and hiking trails, and you may even see a few bison roaming about. Loveland Living Planet Aquarium always goes well with kids as it's home to sharks, penguins, and a rainforest exhibition.

Best Campervan routes from Salt Lake City

Salt Lake City to Moab
This 375km route takes you straight into Red Rock Country. Start by heading southeast, stopping at the town of Price to pick up some supplies and visit the Utah State Prehistoric Museum. Then, continue into Moab, where you will find the Arches and Canyonlands National Parks with towering rock formations and amazing landscapes. You could spend weeks exploring around here and never get to see everything, but campervan hire in Salt Lake City will allow you to see more of it than most people get to see.

Salt Lake City to Yellowstone National Park
While you are in a campervan, it's worth driving the 520km to one of the most famous national parks in the world, Yellowstone. On the way, head through Bear Lake, where you can stop for one of its famous milkshakes and carry on into Idaho before reaching Yellowstone. See Old Faithful, go wildlife spotting and park your campervan in one of the best places you could ever wish to camp.

Salt Lake City to Zion National Park
Take the I-15 south of South Lake City and head towards Utah’s most visited national park. Stop at Cedar City along the way and then carry on toward Zion, where towering red cliffs, slot canyons and scenic drives await you. Hike the Narrows, take in Angel’s Landing (if you dare) or just park up and enjoy the view.

Sites of interest and excursions in Salt Lake City

Timpanogos Cave National Monument
About 45 minutes south of Salt Lake City, these caves are perfect for those who love adventure. It's full of tunnels, eerie rock formations and underground chambers that look like an alien planet. It's quite a walk up there, but it's worth it as you get a guided tour through the caves to see crystal structures and glowing stalactites. It's also lovely and cool inside to escape the summer heat.

Red Butt Garden
Red Butte Garden is the place to go if you want great views without a long drive, as it's right on the city's edge. It combines botanical gardens and hiking trails, perfect for stretching your legs before or after a long drive. The best time to visit is in Autumn when the gardens explode with colour, and in the summer, they sometimes have outdoor concerts.

Silver Lake
Silver Lake is just 40 minutes from downtown Salt Lake City and is as peaceful as it gets. There is an easy boardwalk trail that circles the lake, which is nice for everyone to walk around, regardless of their ability. It's also a great place to kayak and paddleboard in the summer. It's the kind of place that makes you forget how close you are to the city.
