Top Tips For Your Campervan Trip on the USA West Coast
The weather on the West Coast is good all year round, especially in California. Like most places, the shoulder seasons of Spring and Autumn are best for campervan hire on the USA West Coast. The nights are cooler and there are fewer crowds. Summer is the peak season, and it's warmer. Book your campsites as soon as you book your campervan. Places like Yosemite and Big Sur tend to book up fast.
- DrivingYou could hire a campervan on the USA West Coast from cities like Los Angeles and San Francisco. These are hard work to drive in, and not somewhere you want to be driving around. Once you get out of the city, things are a lot easier. California Route 1 is the sort of road you want to be driving along.
- Family Friendly AdventuresTheres no end of adventure on the West Coast. LEGOLAND California should be on your list, as well, as we all love LEGO. If your family is the outdoor type, then national parks such as Yosemite or Crater Lakes are great for exploring.
- The OutdoorsRent a motorhome on the USA West Coast and explore the outdoors. You have the Pacific to surf on, which you should try even if you have never surfed before. The Giant Redwood trees will blow you away. There are also deserts and mountains in every direction as soon as you leave the coast.

Best Campervan Routes on the USA West Coast
San Diego to Yosemite National Park
This route is all about the wild side of California and make your first stop at Palm Springs, as it will feel like you are going back in time. After that, take a slight detour towards Joshua Tree National Park. It's weird and wonderful. Carry on north and you’ll start climbing into the Sierra Nevada with mountain towns like Oakhurst. Once inside Yosemite, get ready for big views and big hikes. It's the sort of place you will talk about forever.
San Francisco to Redwood National and State Parks
This is the ultimate California road trip. Head out of San Francisco, cross the Golden Gate Bridge, and within an hour, you will be in wine country. Stop in Sonoma along the way, which is where you could stock up on some wine. The head onto Highway 1 along the Pacific Coast Highway. This part is full of lookouts, beaches, and small towns with great seafood restaurants. Mendocino is worth a visit with its art shops. Before you know it, you will be in Redwood territory. Park up at a campsite and have dinner under the trees with your Motorhome for hire on the USA West Coast.
Seattle to Crater Lake National Park
Start your trip in Seattle, grab a coffee, and head south on the I-5. The first part of the trip will take you through the Washington countryside. Stop in Olympia or take a slight detour to Mount St. Helens, which is an active volcano. Cross over into Oregon and stop at Portland, known for its food trucks. It's time to head to one of the most underrated national parks in the U.S. Crater Lake is the deepest lake in America, and it's a fantastic blue colour. Park up your campervan and take it all in.
Traffic Rules for the USA

Take note that the speed laws are different in every county, which can make it tricky if you are constantly driving over state lines.
They drive on the right and overtake on the left.
You can turn right on a red light at most junctions unless it says you can’t (something that takes some getting used to).
Seatbelts must be worn at all times.
Some states have HOV (high occupancy lanes), which are marked by a white diamond shape on the road. This means if you have more than two people in your vehicle, you can use these lanes only at certain hours.
Sites of Interest and Excursions on the USA West Coast
Big Sur
Big Sur (not to be confused with the Mac OS) is a big area that runs between California's central coast and San Simeon. It's connected by California Route 1, which we mentioned earlier. This is a narrow road, but it's great for driving on. We recommend stopping at one of the redwood forests, taking pictures of the bridges, and making as many stops as possible at all the attractions.
Mount Rainier National Park
As we have already mentioned, some national parks we thought Mount Rainier deserved a mention. Its one of the parks that doesn’t get talked about as much as it should, but has over 18,000 reviews on Google. Mount Rainier has the most glaciated peak in the USA, the source of 5 major rivers. It’s also home to an active volcano. Campervans are well catered for here, as there are plenty of campsites.
Olympic Peninsula, Washington
The Olympic Peninsula is a fantastic place that is an outdoor lover's dream. Here you will find over 600 miles of walking trails, which cover more than 49 peaks. But that's not all. There are 22 waterfalls, 266 glaciers, 4 rainforests, and beaches. If this doesn't keep you entertained and satisfy your outdoor adventures, then we are not sure what will.
