The Dampier Peninsula

The Dampier Peninsula is the gateway to the Kimberley Coast, and the drive takes visitors through woodland, pindan bush, tidal flats, and mangrove creeks that lead towards the ocean. The Dampier Peninsula has four major communities: One Arm Point, Djarindjin, Lombadina and Beagle Bay.

Perth
Rent a campervan in Broome, and you have an amazing option to drive to Perth, which is 2,172 kilometres away (yes, you read that correctly). Depending on where you choose to stop, it will take a few days; you could even allow two weeks. The fastest inland route is National Highway 95, which misses the point and all the beautiful stops. For interest and view, the recommended route is National Highway 1, the coastal road offering stunning stopovers, including Karijini National Park, Cape Range National Park, Coral Bay, and Hutt Lagoon.

James Price Point is 60 kilometres from Broome. This route is for the enthusiastic 4WD adventurer, and it offers stunning views of the red cliffs and azure ocean waters. The travel time depends on the condition of the road. Take Cape Leveque Road and then turn off onto Manari Road. Locals recommend that you deflate your tyres to drive across the corrugations.

Broome Bird Observatory
Just outside Broome on the shores of the stunning Roebuck Bay is Broome Bird Observatory. The mudflats of Roebuck Bay are amongst some of the most biodiverse in the world, with the highest concentration of wading birds in Australia and migratory visitors from Asia and Siberia during the summer.

Willie Creek Pearls
Roebuck Bay stretches from Broome towards Cape Villaret past Eco Beach; it has a massive tidal range and historically has been the lure for pearl divers and traders since the late 1800s. This working pearl farm is just north of Broome and offers insightful tours detailing the process from seeding to harvest.

Bungle Bungles Purnululu National Park
Purnululu National Park is home to the famous Bungle Bungle range, a series of rock formations with a distinctive beehive shape dating back over 350 million years. Known to locals for centuries, the area was only ‘discovered’ by outsiders in the 1980s when a film crew flew over the area. Now, the area is a national park and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
