Helpful tips for your trip to Amsterdam

April and May are the best times to see the tulip fields, and June to August are when you will get better weather. Best campervan routes from Amsterdam

Amsterdam to Giethoorn
Amsterdam is not a big country, so none of your road trips will be massive. This route is roughly 120km and takes you to the beautiful town of Giethoorn, sometimes called The Venice of the North. After leaving Amsterdam you North East which takes you through some fantastic countryside. Here, the canals are just a bit nicer than in Amsterdam, and you will get a true feeling of real life in the Netherlands. Explore the village by renting a boat or taking a canal tour. This route offers a peaceful escape from the city and a chance to experience a unique side of the Netherlands.

Amsterdam to Keukenhof and Lisse
For an excellent short drive just 40km from Amsterdam, head to Keukenhof (poppy fields) and Lisse. Begin your journey heading southwest towards Keukenhof, one of the world’s largest flower gardens. The best time to visit is spring when the tulips bloom. After exploring Keukenhof, continue to the nearby town of Lisse, which offers beautiful flower fields and charming streets. This route is perfect for flower lovers and those looking to capture stunning photos.

Amsterdam to Zaanse Schans and Volendam
You don’t have to drive far to experience some unique places outside of Amsterdam; Zaanse Schans and Volendam are perfect examples of this. Head northwest from Amsterdam and stop at Zaase Schans, where you will find the windmills that the Netherlands is famous for. Then, carry on your drive to Volendam's fishing village, known for its colourful houses, lively harbour, and traditional Dutch costumes.

Sites of interest and excursions outside of Amsterdam

Hoge Veluwe National Park
Just 85km outside of Amsterdam is Hoge Veluwe National Park - one of the largest national parks in the Netherlands. You honestly wouldn’t believe you are in the Netherlands, and most people don’t realise that there's such a fantastic national park here. You could hire a bike to get around, but you can also go on guided horseback tours there. The park also houses the Kröller-Müller Museum, which boasts impressive Van Gogh paintings and modern art collections.

Utrecht
Utrecht is a great place to experience Dutch city life outside of Amsterdam. Head up to the Dom Tower, the tallest church tower in the Netherlands, a great place to take photographs.  There are also plenty of canals and local markets to experience. Overall, it's a great city that is less touristy than Amsterdam.
