Best Campervan routes from Brussels

Brussels To Ghent
This is only a short journey of roughly 60km and would make the perfect route for those who may only have their campervan in Brussels for a few days. It's quite a direct route along the E40, but Ghent is the most fantastic city, and somewhere you should visit on your campervan trip. It's very walkable, and plenty of campsites are on the city's outskirts.

Brussels to Ostend with a stop in Bruges
Brussels to Ostend calling at Bruges is a great route in two fantastic locations. Head Northeast out of Brussels along the E40 motorway towards Bruge. It's quite a nice leisurely drive to get here. Bruges is a small old city, so when you park up, we recommend stopping outside the city and walking in to save time when driving around the small streets. There are loads of things to do here, and if you can choose to spend the night here, it's only a short 30-minute drive to Ostend along the E40 motorway and the A10. Ostend is a lovely seaside resort town with plenty of things to do. Overall, this journey will allow you to see two places in one.

Brussels to Aachen
Why not head to another country while you are enjoying your campervan travels? Brussels to Aachen is a 140km drive that takes you through plenty of lovely countryside with some great places to visit. You could call at Leuven, which is a nice, old, charming town famous for its beautiful architecture. Then you could always call at Liège, which is one of the biggest cities in Belgium with a rich history. After that, you cross the border into Germany and head for Aachen, which is a fantastic little town famous for its history as the residence of Charlemagne. Check with your campervan provider if you can take your campervan to another country.

Sites of interest and excursions in Brussels

Waterloo Battlefield
This is about 20km outside of Brussels and should be on the list for anyone interested in history. Of course, the famous Battle of Waterloo occurred in 1815, when Napoleon was defeated. There are plenty of good viewpoints over the battlefield, including Lion’s Mound, which is 226 steps high. Then, there is the battlefield memorial and a visitor centre. Guided tours are also available.

Mechelen
Mechelen is a great town worth visiting while you are out and about in your campervan, as it's only 30km from Brussels. It's only a small town, but it's full of history and culture, including St. Rumbold’s Cathedral, where you can climb the steps to the top to get great views over the city.

Tervuren
Tervuren covers 200 hectares and is home to the beautiful Tervuren Park and the Royal Museum for Central Africa. Large lakes, good paths, and lawns are perfect for picnics. It can be very popular during the summer, so ensure you arrive early to avoid the crowds. It makes an excellent first stop when you are heading out of Brussels.
