You’ll drive down the E20 through plenty of scenic Swedish countryside. There’s also the option to stop at Lake Vättern on the way, which also lies 3.25 hours and about 250km from Stockholm. 

Stockholm to Gothenburg
If you want to visit the country’s other coast while seeing Sweden’s second city, head to Gothenburg. While the drive is a little longer at 5.25 hours and 466km, you’ll be rewarded by the city’s incredible Amsterdam-style canals and leafy boulevards. You’ll mostly travel via E4 and Route 40 to get there. 

Stockholm to Norrköping
If you want to visit one of Sweden’s most industrial cities which also has an unexpectedly impressive outdoor offering, head to Norrköping. Located just a 2-hour 20-minute drive (160km) from Stockholm, take the E4 to get there. You’ll be rewarded with medieval architecture, fascinating museums, and the breathtaking Carl Johans Park.

Uppsala
Uppsala is a university city just outside of Stockholm, known for its lively student population and beautiful architecture. Sometimes referred to as the ‘Cambridge of Sweden’ (and for good reason), Uppsala lies just a 1.25-hour drive (71km) from the centre of Stockholm. 

Sigtuna
Located just 48km and a 55-minute drive from Stockholm, Sigtuna is a town known for its medieval ruins and historical sights. Home to shops and restaurants in traditional Swedish wooden buildings, here you’ll find Sweden’s oldest main street as well as the ruins of St. Olaf’s, St. Lawrence’s and St. Peter’s medieval churches.

Västerås
This city in central Sweden is easily accessible from Stockholm at just a 1.5-hour drive and 108km away. Located on the shore of Lake Mälaren, it’s the perfect spot to blend city living with scenic views and outdoor activities.
